Puttaparthi is a small village situated in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, South India. Known as the birthplace of Sri Satya Sai Baba, Puttaprthi was a secluded and primitive village which since the late 1960s has become a divine pilgrimage for people from all parts of the world. The town's main attraction, Sai Baba's Prasanthi Nilayam ashram, has given a major boost to the local economy in the form of hospitals, schools, museums, recreation centers, lodges, restaurants, and shops frequented by visitors. Outside the ashram, rural life persists in the village, with fertile lands and long stretches of green fields.
